Stela with Ballplayer Monument
Cotzumalhuapa Culture, Guatemala, c. 650–950 CE
Because they remind me our core. Exploring distant histories and civilizations helps me step outside my own time and see the world with fewer biases (is it possible?). It allows me to feel less attached to fixed ideas imposed by others, more open to different perspectives, and more connected to something universal.
I was a ballplayer too. What if I were a ballplayer who had lived back then? It seems so absurd watching these monuments now and writing about them on electronic devices. We're blinded by too much temporary noise.
